The making of simpli

simpli is the culmination of my jewelry work over the last five years. I have grown in skills, ideals, and audience and have loved combining design and crafting to create this brand identity and continue to expand my business.

Jewelry Process

Mainly working with recycled glass and wire my process starts with collecting, breaking and tumbling the glass to create artificial sea glass. I then proceed to wrap the glass pieces, add beads, and create earrings, rings, and more.

Creating the Identity

To begin the design process I established the tone I wanted my identity to communicate. I also created a mood board to help hone in my ideas.

After establishing a tone and beginning to conceptualize my brand values, I began brainstorming the name that would represent the work. Through mind maps and lots of time I chose a reworked version of my previous name. Simply, now, simpli. With an I for a few reasons but mainly to represent my own name, Carli, with an I.

Ideations

While ideating I experimented with different styles by using descriptor words to lead my designs. Though I thought the palettes and features of some of my first designs had some successes they ultimately did not reflect the tone I had created in my mood board. From this realization I iterated and chose a more muted and earthy color palette. I also switched the tittle of the I from a sparkle to a spiral to reflect the wire wrapping in the jewelry and create a more natural shape.

Final Iterations

Visual System and Application

Once I created a visual system I applied it to photographs, business/display cards, and an infographic. All three used in promotion and display of simpli on social media and at in person events.
